A part of History
- Situated in the middle of the northern Dare county beaches. It is the largest area in Dare County and their population is almost 7,000, year round. The Wright brothers made their first four flights at the base of Kill Devil Hill and the hill is now a part of the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
- The First Flight Airstrip also sits with the Wright Brothers National Memorial. The airstrip is 3,000 feet long, is paved and was added to the park in 1963 for the use of small planes.
- There are many recreation areas to enjoy, including, Meekins Field Playground and athletic field, the Bay Drive multi use path, Fitness Trail at Aviation Park, West Hayman Boulevard, and Aviation Park Veterans Drive.
- In 1991 community leaders led the construction and dedication of the Veterans Memorial on Veterans Drive. The site is located at the top of the Big Hill at the Wright Brothers Monument. Every Veterans Day there is a Memorial held in honor of the Fallen soldiers.
- Water accesses to the beach include, Hayman Boulevard Estuarine Access, Third Street Estuarine Access, and NC wildlife access.
