  •  Kitty Hawk was once named Chickahawk in the early 1800’s. Chickahawks meaning is a time or place to hunt geese.  Kitty Hawk is a town in Dare County, NC and in 2000 the population was about 3,000.
  • On April 13, 1981, Kitty Hawk was incorporated as a town and consists of a beach community, traditional village, and a maritime forest reserve called Kitty Hawk Woods.  According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.23 square miles, 8.18 square miles of it is land and 0.0476 square miles of it is water.
  • Kitty Hawk became famous after the Wright Brothers, made their first controlled powered airplane flights on Dec. 17, 1903.  Although Kitty Hawk is sometimes mistaken for where the Wright Brothers made their flights, this is not accurate. Kitty Hawk is where they sent their telegram from to their father letting them know of their success.
